SSB, Customs seize narcotics worth Rs 2 crore in international market

In a major breakthrough, a joint force of SSB and Customs have seized narcotic substances worth Rs nearly 2 crore.

Acting on a tip-off, the forces carried out a raid at Gondojot area and found a person moving suspiciously with a bag in his hand. The members of the 41 battalion of the SSB and the senior officials of the Customs were following the suspect who had fled from the spot leaving the bag in the area after sensing he might be arrested. The joint forces recovered the bag and found narcotics the market value of which would be around Rs 2 crore.

It was learnt that the accused was carrying the narcotic substance wrapped in a piece of cloth inside a nylon bag. The investigating officials suspect that the accused might have had an intention to smuggle the narcotic substances to North-Eastern states. It is suspected that the accused who fled from the spot might have been a part of an international smuggling racket.

A raid is being conducted to nab the culprit. The investigating officers are also trying to know who are the other persons involved in the crime. According to the preliminary investigation, the investigating officers suspect that the accused was assigned to take the bag containing narcotics up to the Indo-Assam border. They are also investigating where from did the accused collect the huge consignment of narcotics. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard.
