To commemorate the fifth centenary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s historic visit to Vrindavan from Puri, the Gaudiya Mission of Kolkata’s Baghbazar has planned a year-long celebration to begin at Vrindavan Dham.

The celebration would start with a 22-day-long spiritual tour taking 250 devotees and sadhus to Vrindavan from Kolkata by bus through the same route as had been taken by Mahaprabhu from Puri to Vrindavan, secretary of the Mission, BS Sanyasi Maharaj said.

“More than 250 saints and devotees from Gaudiya Mission will set off from Sri Gaudiya Math, Baghbazar for Puri Dham on November 11. And from Puri, they will travel to Vrindavan on November 18 via Keonjhar, Ranchi, Kuju and Varanasi,” he said.

In 1515, Mahaprabhu skirted the traditional route and reached Vrindavan on foot via an area which is now Jharkhand.

President Pranab Mukherjee, among other dignitaries, is expected to be present at the inaugural function.
