Kolkata: A fake notification claiming that the semester system in the Higher Secondary curriculum would be discontinued from the current academic session sparked confusion following its wide circulation in social media and WhatsApp on Thursday.

The notice, purportedly issued on the letterhead of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBHSCE) and carrying the signature of Council President Partha Karmakar, triggered a major uproar in the education sector. The Council sprang into action and clarified that the notification was completely fabricated and had no connection whatsoever with the Council.

President of WBHCSE, Partha Karmakar, said that he has lodged a written complaint with Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station in this regard.

“We have lodged a complaint with the police, urging them to find out the offender and take action as per the law. It is necessary to expose such attempts to malign the reputation of the Council,” said Karmakar.

The forged notice mentioned the date of April 1. On the same day, another fake notification had surfaced in the name of the chairman of the Purulia District Primary School Council, which was later found to be false.

The repeated circulation of such fake notices has caused concern among the education community.
