Tension ran high at BN Bose Hospital in Barrackpore following the death of a youth whose family members staged protest inside the hospital campus alleging medical negligence.
The victim, Biswanath Samanta (28), a resident of the Sankhabanik Colony area in Barrackpore was admitted to the hospital on March 25 following some ailments.
The hospital authorities have, however, claimed that there was no negligence on their part. The family members of the victim denied to accept their theory and lodged a complaint with a senior official of the hospital.
The family members of the victim said that the patient had developed a pimple on his back and it gradually got bigger in size. As the victim was unable to bear the pain, he had been taken to the hospital.
The family members also said that the doctors performed a surgery on the patient last Tuesday. His condition improved after
his surgery.
However, on Thursday morning, the relatives of the patient were told that the condition of the patient has deteriorated. The hospital authorities told them that Biswanath's condition is critical and he must be shifted to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, following which, the family members arranged an ambulance to shift the patient.
When the patient was taken to the emergency department of CMCH, the patient was declared brought dead.
The family
members then returned to BN Bose Hospital along with the body and staged a demonstration demanding action against the doctors who were responsible for his death.
The incident triggered tension in the hospital. The family members of the victim alleged that the patient's condition improved following his surgery but suddenly his condition deteriorated as there was negligence on the part of doctors.
They also alleged that the doctors might have done wrong treatment as a result of which his condition deteriorated so fast. They also demanded action against those who were responsible behind the incident. They met a senior official of the hospital and urged him to carry out an independent inquiry into the incident.
Police rushed to the spot to control the situation. The jawans of Rapid Action Force were also deployed who brought the situation under control.
