A youth was beaten up by goons when he was trying to save his sister from being misbehaved with by two men.

The incident triggered tension at Jagadishchandrapur village under Uluberia on late Wednesday night. The victim, Seikh Khokon, who suffered serious injuries on various parts of his body, has been undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Police have started a probe but they are yet to arrest anybody in this connection.

Police said that Khokon was accompanying his sister to their house on Wednesday night when two local youth identified as Seikh Poltu and Seikh Bhutto stopped their way. They started hurling expletives at the girl. When the victim protested against the incident, the two miscreants started beating him up. The victim fell on the ground after receiving several blows on his face and other parts of his body. Police also said that it was a preplanned attack as the victim was trying to organise a movement against the accused who often tease and molest girls in the locality.

The victim was collecting mass petition from the local residents so that he can submit a deputation to the local police station against the accused. This had made the accused angry and they wanted to take a revenge on the youth. When he was returning home along with his younger sister, the two accused attacked him. After hearing the screams of the victim, some local residents rushed to the spot and took the victim to Uluberia hospital with severe injuries on his head. The accused, however, fled from the spot before the local residents reached the spot.

The victim's family members told the police that the miscreants attacked the victim with a stick. The family members of the victim lodged a complaint at the local police station. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
