Kolkata: A youth was beaten up by an app-based cab driver following a scuffle at Ekbalpore on Monday late night. Police said the youth, Premankar Ghosh, is a resident of Amherst Street area. He had boarded an app cab on Monday night to reach home.
He claimed that the driver of the cab refused to take him near his house, that is the destination he had keyed in while booking the app cab. Instead he wanted to drop the youth at a distance of around 1 km away from his house and asked the youth to make the payment.
The youth refused to get down from the car and was not even ready to make the payment unless he takes him to the destination. However, the driver refused to go ahead and it led to the trouble between the driver and youth.
The youth had contacted some of his friends. Before his friends reached the spot there, a scuffle broke out between the two.
Ghosh alleged that the driver pushed him and even attempted to run over him while fleeing with the car on finding the victim's friends approaching the spot.
The youth lodged a complaint with the police in this connection. Police have initiated a probe and trying to identify the accused.
