Workshop on Quantum Computing to be held today

Kolkata: State Information Technology and Electronics (IT&E) department in association with Webel will organise a workshop on Quantum Computing at Biswa Bangla Convention

Centre on Friday.

"Quantum Computing is one of the emerging technologies in which Bengal wants to take the lead. The knowledge workshop will have speakers from leading institutions across the country," said a senior official of the state

IT department.

The keynote speaker at the workshop will be Amlan Chakraborty, Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology of Calcutta University, who will speak on "Quantum Computing-Technology and Advancement, while state IT & E secretary Debashis Sen will deliver the welcome address.

"It will take some more years to embrace Quantum Computing commercially. However, we have to start preparations from now.

It is perhaps for the first time in India when such a workshop involving so many experts under a single platform is being organised," the official maintained.

There will be speakers from as many as eight leading institutions that include IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, Bose Institute, SN Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences and Calcutta University

among others.

On the industry side, there will be speakers from

IBM and PWC.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee desires to build a hub for technology firms like Silicon Valley in the state and so the state IT & E department is leaving no stone unturned to play a leading role in these emerging IT technologies like Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Embedded Technology, Robotics, IOT, Quantum Computing etc.

"Our vision is to move towards a decentralised and transparent ecosystem, where the government and every industry will be able to leverage benefits of these emerging technologies," the

official said.

The IT department is confident of a full house with the registrations being done in full swing.
