Woman who attempted suicide succumbs to injuries

A woman who was admitted to NRS Medical College and Hospital with serious burn injuries on Saturday succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning.

The victim had attempted suicide by setting herself on fire after she had allegedly been subjected to mental torture by her husband due to her failure to deliver a baby. The victim's family members lodged a complaint in the police station alleging that the woman was forced to commit suicide as she had to suffer unbearable pain at her in-laws' house. They also alleged that the victim had also been subjected to mental torture at her in-laws' house.

After failing to bear the torture, the woman took a drastic step by killing herself. On Saturday, the victim set herself on fire at her in-laws' house at Narkeldanga. She was taken to the NRS Medical College and Hospital with serious burn injuries on all over her body. The patient on Sunday died in the hospital.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's family members, the police arrested the victim's husband. Police have started a case of abetment to suicide against the husband Vinod Shaw. It was learnt that the victim woman was married to Vinod in 2007. The family members of the victim alleged two years after their marriage, the accused husband started torturing the victim as she failed to deliver a baby. For more than six years, the woman stayed at the house of her in-laws despite of the torture and abuse.

She tried to face the situation without any complaint to anybody as she thought that this might end someday. But unfortunately the level of torture had gone up in recent times. But she finally decided to commit suicide after suffering from tremendous depression. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
