A woman from Haridevpur area lodged a complaint with the police against a local youth who had allegedly threatened her of acid attack after she refused his proposal of marriage. The victim had been staying with her 6-year-old daughter at their residence at Silpara area of Haridevpur after her husband had left her a year ago.
Taking advantage of this, a local youth identified as Khokon Debnath, a driver by profession, had been making marriage proposals to the woman for quite sometimes. But she had repeatedly turned down his proposal. The victim told the police that Debanth forcibly entered her house a few days ago and beat her up as she had refused his proposal.
He also ransacked her house which prompted the woman to lodge a complaint with the police. This had infuriated the accused so much that he started threatening the victim of dire consequences. He also threatened the victim that he would hurl acid on her if she does not accept his proposal.
The victim also alleged that despite making a complaint, the police did not take any action against the accused. She said that she went to the police station on Wednesday night after being attacked by the accused but the police did not take any step against him. Hence, she has been living with her daughter in fear apprehending some fresh attack. Police have, however, denied the allegation. A senior police officer said that they have started an investigation on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim.
