Kolkata: A low pressure trough that has formed over Bay-of-Bengal will further intensify in the next 24 hours bringing rainfall early next week, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore predicted on Friday.
The Met office also predicted that the low pressure may trigger a cyclonic situation in South Bengal districts. The city and coastal districts may receive light to moderate rainfall in the next week due to the formation of the low pressure trough, the weather office said.
A senior official of Alipore Met office said that the highest temperature in the city in the next couple of days may hover around 27 degree Celsius, while the lowest temperature may remain around 17 degree. The low pressure trough will intensify in the next 24 hours and there may be a cyclonic circulation in the next 72 hours. There will be no impact of the cyclone in the state. It may sweep through Andhra Pradesh.
The city dwellers may witness rain on Monday and Tuesday next week. The temperature will drop again following the rain, predicted the official.
The temperature in the city has started going up for the past few days, due to the northwesterly wind, which brings the cold wave, being interrupted due to the western disturbances.
The uninterrupted flow of the northwesterly wind had brought in the winter chill in the South Bengal districts, thereby pushing down the mercury by a few notches. But the temperature soared above after the western disturbances hampered the northwesterly wind.
The marginal rise and fall of temperature is normal during winter, the weather office said in this regard.
"We expect the temperature to dip again by a few notches in the city and in some South Bengal districts from next Tuesday, after the low pressure trough clears," a senior official of the Alipore Met office said.
