Kolkata: Various South Bengal districts may witness more rainfall in the next 48 hours, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Tuesday.

According to a senior official of the weather office, the low pressure trough that has formed over North Western parts of the Bay of Bengal may further intensify resulting in more rain in some districts of South Bengal.

The weather office has not yet confirmed when the winter will officially set in. It is presumed that the city dwellers will start feeling cold once the low pressure trough is cleared. The discomfort level will continue to prevail for the next few days. The rain in some parts of South Bengal will not contribute to drop in temperature, a weather expert added.

It was also said that Kolkata and its adjoining districts; particularly the coastal areas may receive light to moderate rainfall in the next two days. A strong wind measuring around 35-45 km per hour may sweep through the coastal districts of the state including East Midnapore and South 24-Parganas. The low pressure will lose its strength from Thursday as a result of which it would stop raining after 48 hours.

It may be mentioned here that the city and suburbs have witnessed light rainfall on Monday and Tuesday due to the impact of the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. The weather office predicted that the winter is expected to set in during the later half of November.

However, city doctors have alerted people so that they maintain a few restrictions during the time of season change.

There is always a possibility of being affected with viral fever. People are advised to gargle warm water after returning home in the evening and in the morning. They have also suggested not to lower the temperature of air conditioning machines below a certain limit.

If anybody complaints of fever, he or she must visit the doctor without any delay, suggested Dr Sajal Biswas, a city-based general physician.
