A 21-year-old housewife from Balurghat in South Dinajpur was beaten up at her in-laws' house after her family members failed to pay them the promised dowry. The victim was taken to Balurghat hospital where she has been undergoing treatment there. The family members of the victim lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which cops started an investigation. The accused had fled immediately after the incident and raids are being conducted to nab them. Cops said that the victim got married to one Jalaluddin Mondal in 2008.
A mother of two children, the victim had been subjected to both mental and physical torture as her family members failed to pay dowry. It was also alleged that she was forced to consume poison. Police have started a probe in this regard.
