Trinamool to organise 'Satyagraha' in district, sub-division levels

Kolkata: Taking the 'Save the Constitution' campaign to all the districts, Trinamool Congress has decided to organise 'Satyagraha', a sit-in demonstration in the district headquarters as well as sub-division levels on Thursday and Friday.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee on Wednesday said: "Our party leaders will hold a sit-in demonstration at all the district headquarters on Thursday and the same programme will be organised at the sub-division levels on Friday to protest against the vindictive attitude of the BJP-led government at the Centre."

"The Centre has been indulging in unconstitutional activities. Our main agenda is to protect our Constitution. For this, we are organising a mass sit-in demonstration on the next two days. Trinamool Congress and other leaders from across the state have joined the 'Save the Constitution' campaign called by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, when she organised a 'dharna' against the BJP-led government for its attempt to spread vengeance. We are now taking the 'Save the Constitution' campaigns to the districts," Chatterjee told the reporters on Wednesday.

"We have seen that many Opposition party leaders have joined Banerjee's campaign in order to protect our Constitution. We urge our party workers and other like-minded people to join the two-day programme in the districts. The sit-in demonstration will be conducted from 10 am to 6 pm in the districts and sub-divisions," Chatterjee maintained.

"Those who want to save our country from BJP will take part in the programme, which will be conducted under our party banner," Chatterjee clarified. It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'dharna' in the name of 'Save the Constitution' was not a political platform.

Taking a dig at the BJP leaders who are coming to the state to attend rallies, Chatterjee said: "Some people are coming to the state like migratory birds. People are not taking the state-based BJP leaders too seriously, as a result of which they are bringing leaders from Delhi."

Speaking on the chit fund issue, Chatterjee told the reporters: "Various chit funds came into existence during the Left Front regime. We first spoke against the chit funds in the Assembly. Go back and see the old proceedings in the Assembly and check who had raised the voice against the chit funds."
