Trinamool forms Gram Panchayat board in Malbazar after 40-year wait

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress has added another feather to its cap at the Panchayat level, by forming its board in Matiali Batabari I Gram Panchayat near Chalsa at Malbazar sub-division in Jalpaiguri.

It may be mentioned that the people of the area have witnessed a change after 40 years in the political party that formed the board of the Gram Panchayat.

The board was formed on Wednesday. Dipak Bhujel of Chalsa has become the Panchayat Pradhan while Ajay Orao of Batabari Tea Estate has become the Upa-pradhan.

Bhujel is also the Matiali block president of the youth wing of Trinamool Congress.

Trinamool Congress workers held a victory rally in the area after forming the board. Local people also joined the victory rally, where sweets were distributed.

Local leaders of the political party are considering this as a huge win, as despite several attempts it had not become possible to bring a change of guard in the area in the past 40 years.

Local people are now expecting huge development work to take place in the area, with Trinamool Congress forming the board in the Gram Panchayat.

Trinamool Congress has bagged 16 out of 20 seats and BJP has bagged one seat, while Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has got one seat. Two seats have been won by Independent candidates.

All the 20 members were present when the board was formed on Wednesday. The administration had made all necessary arrangements to ensure that no law and order trouble takes place during formation of the board. However, the entire process was completed in a peaceful atmosphere.

According to local people, the change in the Gram Panchay has finally come after 40 long years as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ensured overall development in the state and they expect that further development will take place in the years to come.
