Kolkata: A tribal girl was allegedly raped by a local youth. The incident took place at Kamardanga village near Suri in Birbhum on Sunday.
The victim has been undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Suri. A medical test was performed on the girl at the hospital, which has confirmed that she had been assaulted. The district police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
Police said that the victim was going to a nearby place early on Sunday morning, when a local youth dragged her into a bush where the crime took place. The accused threatened the victim with dire consequences if she informed the matter to her family members.
The victim reached home in a traumatised condition, with some bruises on her body. She broke down in tears when her family members wanted to know what had happened. The victim then narrated the whole incident to her parents.
Her family members then lodged a complaint at the local police station, on the basis of which police started a probe and interrogated the victim to identify the accused. They are trying to know if the accused was acquainted with the victim.
