Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress worker was shot dead by a few miscreants on Sunday night at Canning in South 24-Parganas. No one has been arrested in this connection
so far.
According to locals, Naziruddin Sardar, a resident of Hatpukuria in Canning was returning home with his brother-in-law Saifuddin Sardar on a bike. Near Hatpukuria village, around eight miscreants surrounded the duo, and forced both of them to get down from their bike.
One of them fired a shot aiming Naziruddin immediately after he got down. As a result he fell on the ground. When Saifuddin was busy with him, the miscreants fled the spot firing two more shots to create panic among locals.
Naziruddin was immediately rushed to Canning Sub Divisional Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Canning police station was informed. Later, police took charge of Naziruddin's body and sent it for an autopsy. Locals TMC leader Paresh Ram Das claimed Naziruddin was murdered because he was a TMC worker.
Naziruddin used to be a daily wage labourer working in the Metiabruz area. On Sunday night, he was returning from his work when miscreants shot at him. Police suspect Naziruddin might had some enmity with the people behind this crime.
The sleuths are checking with the local miscreants and finding out if they were involved in the crime.
Police are trying to know if there is any information of selling and buying of illegal arms in the area. The sleuths are also questioning Saifuddin for more information as he was present in the crime scene.
