TMC slams Amit Shah over his Bengal visit

Update: 2022-05-06 19:52 GMT

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress severely criticised Union Home minister Amit Shah for speaking lies and spreading canard against the state government.

Partha Chatterjee, the Trinamool Congress secretary general on Friday, tweeted: "Shady as he is @AmitShah is back to shamelessly peddling lies and tainting #Bengal! Looks like our mandate did not register with the Home Minister. Either that or he is clearly afraid that some more leaders are all set to REJECT @BJP4Bengal ! #PoliticalTouristBackInBengal."

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP said "Mr. @AmitShah , ENOUGH OF YOUR DECEPTION! Take your divisive politics out of our holy land because in case you still didn't realize, BENGAL STANDS UNITED. #PoliticalTouristBackInBengal."

In a series of tweets, TMC wrote: "Mr. Home Minister FORGOT TO DO HIS HOMEWORK! Who is responsible for border issues, Mr @AmitShah? Who is peddling lies in #Bengal? WHO IS THE BIGGEST SORE LOSER? (sic)".

"He came. He lied. He lied some more. And now, he will be going back with a broken heart because as always, his lies and hate found NO PLACE IN BENGAL. Keep coming@AmitShah and we will keep REJECTING your DIVISIVE POLITICS (sic)," another tweet on the TMC's official handle read.

Chatterjee said it seemed that the clear mandate that Trinamool Congress received in the 2021 Assembly election did not register well with him. He might be mortally scared that some more BJP leaders may quit the party any day. "He comes to Bengal to spread canard and lies… His only business is to confuse people on various issues. He should have done his homework before making statements. After all, he is the Home Minister of India and should make responsible statements."

Calling Shah a political tourist, Ghosh Dastidar urged Shah to take his divisive politics out of Bengal as people here are united. She said the BJP is such a shameless party that despite the landslide defeat in the 2021 Assembly election, its leaders continue to criticise Bengal.

"BJP only believes in division. Division of caste, communities and religion. Their nasty tricks did not work in Bengal as the people are united. In future, they will thwart any attempt to play the dirty political game in Bengal."

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leaders questioned Shah's visit to the house of Arjun Chowrasia, the BJP Yuva Morcha leader who was found hanging from the ceiling of an abandoned building in Cossipore on Friday morning.

Calling Shah a political tourist, Chandrima Bhattacharya, the Trinamool Mahila Congress president, questioned how could Shah call it a murder even before the post-mortem was done. She said: "Is he a political astrologer who can predict everything. How could he say this?"

Shashi Panja alleged that BJP is trying to create a narrative that Chowrasia has been murdered and all the leaders are echoing his voice. She alleged that Shah had gone to the house and tried to tamper with the police investigation. "Why should the police snatch the dead body? Did he prevent the police from taking away the body for post-mortem," she asked. Panja said Shah has forgotten the Praygraj incident. He should have gone there and then made such big statements. "Shah is telling lies. Over the years, we have seen doctored videos, fake videos and distorted news."

Bhattacharya said: "We are not afraid of the court. Unlike the BJP, we always obey the court order and respect it." She said in 2021, Shah had said the BJP would get 200 seats in the Assembly. In the past one year, he did not come to Bengal after his party was defeated by the people. "Again he has come to confuse people by telling lies. He cannot take the growth of Bengal and so he is spreading canard against a peaceful state."

She said Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee has condemned the incident and those involved will be punished.
