TMC publishes poll manifesto for Kaliagunj by-election

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress published the election manifesto for the by-election in Kaliagunj Assembly seat on Saturday, stressing on better civic amenities, health facilities and infrastructure development.

Tapan Deb Singha is Trinamool's nominee for the by-election, which became necessary following the death of sitting Congress MLA Pramatha Nath Roy.

Congress and CPI(M) have inked an electoral alliance and Congress has fielded its candidate for the forthcoming by-election.

The manifesto promises upgradation of the Kaliagunj State General Hospital in phases. The number of beds is to be increased to 25 and there will be healthcare facilities for cardiology and paediatrics. There will be one fully operational primary health centre in every Gram Panchayat area, along with one ambulance in every Panchayat.

There will also be a bus stand for North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) buses. Air-conditioned buses will ply from Kaliagunj to Kolkata directly and the existing roads will be repaired along with construction of new roads.

Under the citizen welfare scheme, a dedicated MLA helpline number is to be opened to provide better services to the people. The MLA will hold public meetings to listen to the grievances of the people twice a month.

Affordable housing is to be set up for the poor through Bangla Awas Yojna. Steps will be taken for timely disbursement of funds worth Rs 25,000 under the 'Amar Fasal Amar Gola' scheme.

Lastly, the ITI College will be upgraded, along with foundation of Panchanan Barma Women's College and establishment of a new agriculture college in Kaliagunj.
