TMC councillor shot in Budge Budge

Kolkata: Within 10 days of Krishnagunj MLA Satyajit Biswas's murder, a Trinamool Congress councilor, identified as Mithun Tikadar, was shot inside the party office at Chitligunj in Budge Budge on Monday.

He has been rushed to a private hospital in Ekbalpore, where he is undergoing a major operation.

According to locals, Tikadar, councillor of ward 20 of Budge Budge Municipality, was at the party office around 8:45 pm on Monday. All of a sudden two youths went inside the party office and shot Tikadar.

Immediately after that the duo ran outside. Locals gathered hearing the bullet shot. To save themselves miscreants allegedly hurled bombs. When locals ran for their lives, the duo fled the scene.

Sources informed the bullet hit Tikadar between his chest and upper abdomen.

According to Goutam Dasgupta, the vice-chairman of Budge Budge Municipality, Tikadar is quite popular in the area. He had done a very good job while developing his ward. He alleged that BJP was behind the attack. "We suspect that BJP is doing all this as they are our political enemy."

Sources informed that ward No. 20 was the weakest area for the ruling party before Tikadar became councillor. Phulu Dey, chairman of Budge Budge Municipality said: "I just heard Tikadar has been shot. He has been taken to hospital. He is very much popular in the area. "

Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and started an investigation. Locals claimed Tikadar identified the duo who shot him. As per their version, both the miscreants were from Budge Budge area. One of them lives in Tikadar's ward. Till Monday night police could not trace the miscreants who had shot Tikadar.
