KOLKATA: In the course of investigation into the murder of Satish Sharma, a Trinamool Congress activist at Titagarh, Barrackpore Police has come to know about a contract of Rs 2.5 lakh that was put out for his murder.
One of the accused, Kala Munna, in the face of interrogation admitted to have received Rs 20,000 as advance money for committing the crime. The investigating officers are trying to find out the accused who put out the contract. Police also came to know about the modus operandi planned to commit the crime.
The names of three persons, who had engaged the contract killers, have popped up during police interrogation and are yet to be confirmed.
As decided, the accused were given Rs 20,000 in cash and the remaining amount would be handed over after the crime was committed. The senior police officers of Barrackpore Commissionerate were not ready to reveal the names of the three other accused who are still at large.
It may be mentioned that police have already arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the incident. They are Bhola Prasad, Kala Munna, Seikh Samir and Sanjay Das. Kala Munna is the person who shot the victim. Police said Samir and Sanjay are the residents of the area.
Police arrested the four accused after conducting raids at various places in North 24-Parganas. They are remanded to police custody after being produced before a district court on Tuesday. Sharma was shot at by the miscreants on last Monday morning when he was sitting at an under construction Kali Puja pandal at Titagarh.
The miscreants came on two motorcycles. Kala Munna has revealed some crucial information to the police which might help them to nab the masterminds.
Meanwhile, the victim succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday morning. Some of the locals on Tuesday took out a demonstration protesting against the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Police are probing whether a quarrel over promoting business led to the murder. As per the preliminary investigation, the investigating officers are ruling out its possibility.
