Darjeeling: The Tibetan Youth Congress will commemorate Tibetan Uprising Day on March 10 in Delhi. A release from Tibetan Youth Congress stated that March 10, 2019 marks 60 years of Lhasa Uprising, which had taken place in 1959. People from all over the world gather to honour the thousands of valiant Tibetan men and women who had gathered in Lhasa to revolt against the Chinese Communist occupation forces on that day in 1959. Lakhs of Tibetans had surrounded the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, requesting him not to accept the invite by People Liberation Army. With time, the protest grew and finally the protest was brutally suppressed resulting in thousands of deaths.

"We remember the day throughout the world and pay homage to those courageous men and women. Tibetan Youth Congress will be organising programmes in New Delhi on March 10, 11 and 12. We call on all Tibetans and Tibet supporters living in India and neighbouring countries to participate in this movement. Tibet is in critical state and it is imperative for us to come together united in our stand for our nation and for our people. Let us make our voices heard," said the release. Rallies, candle light vigil and peace march will mark the occasion.
