Three held for snatching purse, phone

Kolkata: Three youths were arrested on Thursday night at Dakshindari in Lake Town for allegedly snatching a purse and mobile phone from a woman on November 23.

The woman, identified as Kajal Narayan Singh, of Laxminagar, Jagat Ram Park, in New Delhi was waiting for a cab in front of a dhaba on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass near Bengal Chemical. Three youths arrived on a bike and snatched her purse that contained Rs 60,000 in cash and a smartphone.

Police scrutinized CCTV camera footages but, due to poor quality of the recording the vehicle was identified. But the cops managed to find out the brand and model of the bike. Other CCTV footages were scrutinised to find out the route the accused persons taken to reach VIP Road.

Police started gathering intelligence inputs and on Thursday they came to know the location of the accused persons. A police team from Maniktala police station raided a house in Dakshindari and nabbed Md Jasim of Sadhana Ousudhalaya Road in Dakshindhari who was riding the bike. After interrogating him two other accused persons, identified as Md. Sukur and Md Sonu alias Bonnu Bonnu were arrested from the same area. The phone, Rs 57,000 in cash, and the bike have been seized.
