Kolkata: A 15-year-old girl died after she allegedly fell down from an apartment in Lake Town on Wednesday. She was pronounced dead by the doctors at a private hospital.
According to a source, on Wednesday evening, residents of the apartment, which is near Lake Town swimming pool, heard a loud thud. When some of them rushed out of their homes to find out what happened, they saw a girl lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the girl's parents and took her to a private hospital at Kajipara near Nagerbazar. Police suspect that the girl committed suicide. A source said the girl was under depression owing to some personal problem.
The cops are scrutinising the CCTV camera footages of the apartment. Though no foul play is suspected, a team of forensic experts inspected the incident spot to gather circumstantial evidences on Thursday. After the autopsy, the concerned surgeon said the girl died due to fall from height. However, it is not clear whether she jumped from the apartment to commit suicide or someone else pushed her.
Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of Bidhannagar Police Kunal Agarwal said: "We are probing the case. Footage was CCTV cameras are being checked. Forensic experts will shortly come up with their opinion after inspecting circumstantial evidences. As of now, no foul play is detected." Residents of the apartment refused to comment. On Thursday night, parents of the deceased girl lodged a complaint with Lake Town police station against an unknown person and a murder case has been initiated.
In a similar incident, an 18-year-old girl fell down from the rooftop of a four-storeyed building in Taltala on Thursday. The woman reportedly went to the roof with a blanket to place it under the sun. Around 6:40 am, a woman,who was sleeping on the footpath in front of her house, woke up hearing a loud thud. She saw the girl lying in pool of blood near her. The injured woman was rushed to a private hospital in Mallik Bazar, where she succumbed to her injuries. The police are questioning her family members to find out how the incident took place.
