Kolkata: Renowned theatre personality Sudipto Chatterjee has been arrested for allegedly raping one of his students at his flat in Beliaghata.
On Friday evening, the woman lodged a complaint of rape at the Phoolbagan police station, while another young woman lodged another complaint of molestation at the Beliaghata police station on the same day. Chatterjee was arrested within a few hours of the complaints being lodged.
According to sources, Chatterjee was a teacher of Media Science at the Heritage Academy. Following the allegations, he submitted his resignation. The woman who has lodged the rape complaint, had earlier posted on Facebook narrating the incident.
Through the post she had informed that she was a part of Chatterjee's team called the 'Spectators'. Chatterjee was supposed to stage a play soon, where a scene of rape was to be shown. He had arranged for rehearsal at his flat for the past seven months.
It has been alleged that during the rehearsals, Chatterjee used to touch the woman inappropriately. Later, she was allegedly raped as well.
Meanwhile, another woman alleged that Chatterjee used
to touch her inappropriately
as well, under the guise of teaching moves. One day at his flat, he allegedly tried to rape her too while teaching her the 'diaphragm breathing technique'.
However, none of them had lodged a complaint earlier. After the post on Facebook, Chatterjee claimed that he was just trying to rectify the flaws of the two women and they were touched by him with their consent.
On Friday after both the women lodged the complaints, Chatterjee was arrested in connection with the alleged rape case. He will be produced before the Sealdah Court on Saturday.
