Kolkata: The state Correctional Administration department has roped in a leading brand of Mens fashionwear to offer tailoring training to the inmates of Presidency Correctional Home. The training programme will be formally launched by state Correctional Administration minister Ujjal Biswas at a programme on the grounds of Presidency Correctional Home on Friday.

"We have been training a section of inmates of Presidency Correctional Home on tailoring for quite some time. However, times have changed and there is a need to upgrade them so that they can cater to the latest fashion trends. Hence, we are partnering with this leading brand," state Correctional Administration minister Ujjal Biswas said.

The minister added that the fashion brands will be organising workshops in phases and the inmates who are already undergoing training on tailoring will be upgraded to ensure that their products find a place among the very best.

"The fashion brand will use their latest machines for the purpose of imparting this training and most importantly, after the inmates develop the skills they will be provided with order targets and the garments tailored by them will be directly sold to customers from all the outlets of the fashion brand across the city," a senior official of the Correctional Administration

department said.

It may be mentioned that the Mamata Banerjee government has been offering training to the inmates of various correctional homes in different vocations that provide opportunities for inmates to engage themselves in fruitful pursuits during their terms in correctional homes.

"It not only takes care of much needed correctional aspect, it also makes one learn a skill, which enables him to follow a vocation after release from the correctional home," the official maintained. The department is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the products manufactured by the inmates are being marketed properly.

At the inaugural programme on Friday, Arun Kumar Gupta, DG & IG of Correctional Services, and Sanjoy Mukherjee, Principal Secretary of the department will also be present.
