STF nabs suspected JMB terrorist

Kolkata: The Special task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police nabbed a person identified as Asif Iqbal alias Nadeem, who is allegedly connected with the terrorist organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Iqbal was arrested on Monday evening from Santragachhi railway station. He was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court in Bankshall Court and was remanded to police custody till March 5.

According to police, Iqbal became a member of JMB during 2017. He obtained training from Kausar alias Bomaru Mijan and for that he went to Chennai. During his training, Iqbal committed several robberies in Bengaluru along with other JMB members to gather funds. Sleuths suspect that he might have been staying with one Ariful Islam alias Arif, alias Ataur, alias Akjtarul, alias Mota Anas, alias Shahid, who was arrested recently by the STF.

Ariful was doing a recce on how to snatch away Kausar from police while travelling to court or returning. Kausar is presently in judicial custody for having connections with the Khagragarh blast case.

Sleuths are interrogating Iqbal to know what their exact plan was. They are also trying to locate if any other JMB terrorists are hiding in the city.
