State records 1,523 cases; 35 deaths in a day

KOLKATA: Single-day Covid infection in Bengal dropped to 1,523 on Friday from what stood at 1,916 on Thursday. Daily infected cases remained at 2,723 on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned here that on last Monday the state had seen a substantial drop in daily Covid infection as the cases came down to 1,910 from what stood at 3,427 on Sunday.

The number of daily fatalities is still on the higher side. As many as, 35 people died of Covid in the state on Friday. The number of fatalities stood at 36 on Thursday and 35 on Wednesday.

In December last year, daily fatalities remained below 10. The figure started rising up to the level of 30 to 37 in the past one month. When the daily infected cases hit around 20,000 in January, daily death figure remained touched 35. The number of cases dropped below 2,000 but the fatalities still remain on the higher side.

The total number of infected cases reached 20,03,692 in Bengal so far. Out of this, around 19,62,721 patients have been released from the hospitals after recovery. The Covid positivity rate on Friday dropped to 3.10 per cent from what stood at 3.94 per cent on Thursday.

The occupancy of Covid beds dropped to 2.55 per cent on Friday from what stood at 2.68 per cent on Thursday. The figure remained at around 3.11 per cent on Wednesday. It stood at 3.33 per cent on Tuesday. The fatality rate in Bengal stood at 1.04 per cent on Friday. State registered the discharge rate at 97.96 per cent on Friday. Around 49,152 samples were tested across the state on Friday. State has so far carried out 2,34,24,297 sample tests. The RTPCR and Antigen test ratio remained at 39:61 on Friday.

Kolkata on Friday registered 181 new cases. Kolkata has so far seen a total 4,45,416 Covid infected cases.

As many as 4,36,317 patients from Kolkata have already been released from the hospitals. Kolkata registered 10 Covid deaths on Friday and the total number of fatalities in the city so far reached 5,552. North 24-Parganas on Friday saw 205 new cases taking the total number of infected cases so far in the district to 4,01,231. Out of this, around 3,92,919 have already been released. North 24-Parganas has seen 6 Covid deaths on Friday while South 24 Parganas saw 2 deaths, Hooghly 5.
