SSKM Hospital starts swab test facilities

Kolkata: After the Coronavirus outbreak hit the nation, the Bengal government in its bid to contain the virus in the state has taken multiple safeguard measures.

In its effort, the state government has set up isolation wards in various medical colleges in the state and also at district hospitals.

SSKM Hospital in the city on Thursday started the swab tests facilities in view of a rise in the number of suspected victims who have returned to the city from different foreign countries.

Beliaghata ID Hospital in the city had the facility of conducting swab tests of suspected patients. As a precautionary measure, the state Health department instructed the SSKM Hospital to undertake swab tests to meet any possible situation.

Senior Health officials held a meeting at Swasthya Bhawan on Thursday where they stressed on the isolation wards and issued guidelines to the districts saying that there must be proper ventilation system at the isolation wards.

Only trained nurses and paramedical staff members will attend the isolation wards. Attempts have been made to open a laboratory at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

All the state government-owned medical colleges in the city have made necessary arrangements to operate a separate isolation ward so that patients brought to the hospitals with suspected nCoV symptoms can be kept in isolation for 14 days.

There is a standard guideline by the Health department that all the medical colleges have to keep the suspected patients in isolation to check human to human transmission.
