Kolkata: Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has engaged RITES to prepare a comprehensive traffic and parking management plan for Sector V, the biggest IT hub of Bengal.
A meeting was recently held between senior officials of NDITS, including its chairman Debashis Sen and their counterpart, in RITES.
RITES will conduct a study as consultant the present traffic congested and parking related issues in Sector V and the impact of future traffic/pedestrian surge due to the upcoming metros.
The objective of the study is to develop a comprehensive traffic and parking management plan for Nabadiganta township area. Suggest infrastructural changes such as parking bays, no parking zones and cycle lanes and rationalization of parking fee to encourage off street parking. Improve parking collecting procedure among others.
RITES has recommended 30 per cent parking lots should be kept for short term parking and 70 per cent for long term parking that is above 5 hours.
Parking lots demarcated for long-term parking may be auctioned quarterly by NDITA authority with vehicle registration number.
A Google Pay/Paytm account shall be created for collection of parking fee.
RITES has identified two areas, Munshir bhery in east and and south east corner near Chintasing bheri for developing new off street parking facility.
Higher capacity ( 10-12 seater) electric vehicles are proposed as feeder service. No permanent structures will be allowed on footpaths.
Instead suitable license will be issued to all hawkers of Sector V.
They will use vans either motorized or non motorized for vending in Sector V area.
They will be allowed to sell their items during a fixed hour of the day.
Temporary parking arrangement may be made within premises of state transport corporation during big examination days.
A buffer zone will be created for waiting of the examinees and their guardians.
