Traffic curbs, diversions in place around Eden Gardens for IPL

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has announced traffic restrictions, diversions and parking curbs around Eden Gardens and adjoining areas on multiple dates in April and May in view of Indian Premier League T20 matches.

The restrictions will be in force on April 2, 6, 9, 19 and May 16, 20, 24, generally from 4 pm to 1 am the next day. On April 19, curbs will apply from 12 noon to 9 pm or until dispersal of the crowd.

Several roads around the stadium, including Kshudiram Bose Road, North Brooke Avenue and Gostha Pal Sarani, will remain closed to vehicular traffic during the notified hours. Vehicles bound for the High Court will be diverted via Esplanade Row West instead of Auckland Road and North Brooke Avenue, subject to traffic conditions.

Movement of goods vehicles will be restricted or diverted in and around Eden Gardens and the Maidan area.

However, vehicles travelling from Howrah to Posta market via St George’s Gate Road and Strand Road will be allowed.

Restrictions will also apply to roads around Victoria Memorial Hall, including parts of AJC Bose Road, Cathedral Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, Casuarina Avenue and Lovers Lane. Parking will be prohibited on both sides of Gostha Pal Sarani, Kshudiram Bose Road, Government Place East, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Old Court House Street, Red Road, Mayo Road and Dufferin Road, depending on traffic requirements. No parking space will be provided for taxis, private buses or other vehicles in and around Eden Gardens on match days.

Traffic across central Kolkata will be diverted, with specific routes earmarked for buses, minibuses, and other vehicles approaching BBD Bag.

Vehicles from south Kolkata may be routed via AJC Bose Road, St George’s Gate Road and Strand Road, while those from north and east Kolkata may be diverted through B B Ganguly Street, S N Banerjee Road, Rani Rashmoni Avenue and adjoining roads.

Bus stands at Band Stand and Auckland Road will be temporarily shifted to Kiran Shankar Roy Road and Esplanade Row East near the Central Bus Terminus. Police said vehicular movement may be further regulated or diverted on adjoining arterial and feeder roads, depending on the situation.
