BALURGHAT: A man, accused of killing his mother, has been sentenced to ten years of jail by a Fast Track court in Islampur of North Dinajpur on Tuesday.
Goutam Dutta was awarded the jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on him by the judge of Fast Track (II) court, Arun Rai.
An additional jail term of one year has also been imposed on the accused if the fine is not paid.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on December 11, 2014 while Dutta hailing from Islampur's Collegepara area was involved in a scuffle with his mother Parbati Dutta and in a fit of anger she was hit by an iron rod on her head. She died on the spot.
A police complaint was lodged by the victim's daughter at Islampur police station. Police initiated a case against Dutta and arrested him later on the basis of the complaint.
Police investigation also revealed Dutta's direct involvement in killing his mother. Prima-facie report also proved it. The process of filing charge sheet by the cops, trial before the court and sentencing were completed after four years.
On Tuesday, Dutta was sentenced to the punishment.
