A scuffle broke out at RG Kar Medical College after a doctor was attacked by the son of a patient who died at the hospital on late Thursday night.
The hospital authorities have ordered a probe in this regard. Senior officials of the hospital held meetings with the police officers urging the latter to strengthen vigil so that such incidents of attacks on doctors could be prevented.
Police have already arrested the accused person, SamirMullick for his alleged involvement in attacking the doctor at the hospital. Police said that the accused had slapped the doctor after his mother Rina Mullick died at the hospital.
The family members of the victim alleged that the patient died at the hospital as she was not properly treated. She was taken to the hospital on Thursday evening as she had been complaining of severe respiratory distress. The patient was admitted at the medicine department of the hospital. The victim's son alleged that the condition of the patient deterioratedat night. Despite repeated pleas, the doctor did not attend the patient. Samir allegedly slapped a doctor following the death of the patient. Police arrested him for his alleged involvement in slapping the doctor.
The family members of the victim on Friday morning staged a demonstration inside the hospital campus alleging medical negligence. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. It may be mentioned here that in a previous few occasions, junior doctors were heckled and beaten up by patients' relatives. A series of meeting had taken place between the police and senior hospital officials. But incidents of attacks on hospitals doctors could not be prevented.

The official said that he would comment on the issue after the inquiry committee submits a report in this regard. Police are carrying out a separate investigation in this regard.
