Kolkata: The residents of Snehodiya, the state-of-the-art living centre for senior citizens in New Town, took part in a cake mixing session on Thursday.
Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) organises programmes year-round to keep the senior citizens busy, with a view to make their post-retirement life meaningful. This year, the members took part in kite flying on Viswakarma Puja, while Durga Puja was organised by the members themselves.
HIDCO chairman Debashis Sen and actor Koel Mallick were present at the event. The traditional cake mixing session is usually organised around a month ahead of Christmas, accompanying good tidings and happiness for the festive season. Executive Chef Susanto Halder from Chapter 2, Kolkata's first retro dining restaurant, helped the Snehodiya residents mix the ingredients in the right proportions for the event. Varieties of candied fruits, assorted nuts, juices and spirits like white wine, brandy and rum were used to soak the fruits and blend for an exotic dough preparation, to mature beautifully in time for Christmas.
"Christmas is one of the most beautiful festivals and we thought of an interesting cake mixing session with the seniors to usher in the Yuletide spirit. I am thankful to Koel Mallick for being present here to participate in the celebrations with Snehodiya residents," said Debasis Sen.
