Kolkata: Murshidabad district police have busted a sleaze racket from an area adjacent to Murshidabad station on late Sunday night.
Six persons including some women have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the racket. According to police, the racket has been operating from a hotel for quite
sometime. Police said that among the arrested there were some sex workers.
According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that the sex racket had been operating from the hotel. Some of the policemen went to the flat
posing as prospective customers and caught the accused red-handed.
Police have started a case under the Immoral Trafficking Act. Police suspect that many others are also involved in the incident. The anti-women trafficking department raided the hotel situated adjacent to Murshidabad station and arrested the accused. A couple was found in a compromising position inside a hotel room.
The arrested sex workers, who are aged between 21 and 27, used to visit other places in the district as well. They are being interrogated in this connection.
Police were receiving complaints from the locals alleging that certain "illegal" activities had been taking place inside some of the hotels situated in the area. On the basis of the information, police raided one of the hotels. Some other hotels in the area are also
under scanner. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard. The women members of the racket were residents of North 24-Parganas, Nadia and Burdwan.
