Kolkata: Tension cropped up in Haridevpur after a skeleton was found from a vacant land on Monday morning. Later, police recovered it and handed the skeleton over to the forensic experts for necessary examination.
According to sources, on Monday morning four labourers were removing garbage from a vacant land where a building would be constructed soon. The land is located on Satyen Roy Road in Haridevpur.
Three months ago, the foundation stone was laid and puja was done. On Monday while removing the garbage and bushes, one of the labourers saw something large wrapped in a polythene bag. When he opened it, he saw the skeleton inside.
Immediately, he informed the other labourers and local people. The labour contractor was informed as well. Later, construction company officials arrived at the spot and informed Haridevpur police station.
Following preliminary investigation, police suspect that the bones were abandoned several months ago as no flesh or blood stains were found.
In the afternoon, experts from the Forensic Science laboratory visited the spot. After seeing the skeleton, they decided on a radiocarbon test to determine the age and other information.
Sources informed that police have already started searching to know if anyone from the area has been missing for a long time. Officials are also waiting for the forensic report, as it may help with the investigation.
