Kolkata: A person was shot dead at Dum Dum in North 24-Parganas on Friday evening.
The deceased identified as Ganesh Kundu (28) was a staff at a decorator's shop. It is suspected that he had some personal enmity with someone, who killed him.
According to locals, Kundu was alone at the shop in the evening near Gorabazar in Dum Dum. Around 7:30 pm, two unknown persons came on a bike. All of a sudden, one of them took out a firearm and shot Kundu on his head from point blank range. Before the pedestrians or locals could react, the miscreant fled the scene riding the bike.
Kundu immediately was rushed to Dum Dum Municipal Hospital and later shifted to R G Kar hospital. But Kundu was declared brought dead at R G Kar hospital. It is suspected that the miscreants knew about the locality and done their act in a planned way as Dum Dum police station is located at a stone throwing distance.
It is also suspected that the miscreants are from Dum Dum area which is an advantage for them. The sleuths are checking with Kundu's family and friends if they know anything about Kundu and his enmity with someone.
Locals informed that the miscreants were wearing helmets and kept faces covered. They also came to know that the owner of the shop where Kundu worked got involved in an altercation with some persons a few days ago. Keeping this fact in mind, police are checking if the incident has any relation with the altercation. The sleuths are also checking with the CCTV footages in the locality to identify the bikers.
