Kolkata: A separate infrastructure has been set up for people with history of travelling abroad as they are coming to Beliaghata ID Hospital for necessary tests suspecting that they could be suffering from COVID-19.

People were found standing in two separate queues outside the unit of the hospital where preliminary check up takes place. One queue was of the people who have history of travelling abroad, while the other queue was of people who don't have any such history.

According to a senior official of the hospital, the step has been taken as it is helping to identify the people with history of travelling abroad in the first instance.

"All details including the places they have travelled to, date of their return, flights in which they returned, etc. are being gathered from those who are having history of travelling abroad. It is helping us in maintaining proper data and using the same, necessary steps can be taken within a very short span of time in case the person is found affected by the disease," the official said, adding that it will help in identifying the people with whom he or she had travelled.

"The persons who are returning to the city from abroad are being screened at the airport and they are now well aware of the need of going to home isolation. But what about those who returned a few weeks ago? It is quite important to get their travel details as well and a separate setup for them is ensuring easy collection of data," the official added, saying that it is also helping to check spread of the disease when the people are standing in queue, as the possibility of suffering from the disease is more among people who have returned from abroad.

In a bid to support the present flow of patients at the hospital, two medical officers and 3 faculties have joined while one more medical officer and three more faculties will be joining soon.

A team of the state Health department, along with officials of the state Public Works Department (PWD) held a meeting with principal of Beliaghata ID Hospital Dr Anima Halder and carried out an inspection of the place where 100 more beds will be set up.
