Kolkata: A school student was killed after an auto overturned at Kalna in Burdwan on Monday night.
Nine more persons were injured in this incident. All the injured and the deceased are residents of Satgachhia village at Nadanghat.
Locals sources informed that on Monday night 10 persons were returning from a wedding ceremony at Jhurobati in Kalna. They hired an auto to reach home. Passengers alleged that the driver was driving the auto at a high speed. Near Bakpur crossing, the driver sped up the auto a bit more. The driving was chewing tobacco while driving. Despite driving at a high speed, the driver tried to spit out and lost control over the auto at that moment. When the side of the auto was about to touch the ground, Khatun slipped from her seat, fell on the road and the auto fell over her.
All the injured persons were immediately rushed to Kalna Hospital where Khatun was declared dead. The injured persons are admitted to the same hospital.
In another incident, two school students were killed after a crane pulling a broke down bus hit both of them at Palashipara in Nadia on Tuesday morning. Locals informed that Sohana Khatun, a student of class VI and Zahir Shaikh, a student of class I were siblings. Around 10 am, they were going to school riding a bicycle. Near Pulsunda School, a crane carrying a broke down bus hit the bicycle and ran them over.
Both Sohana and Shaikh were rushed to hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. The driver of the crane fled the spot. Later, locals ransacked the crane and protested. Police from Palashipara Police Station brought the situation under control.
