The general manager of the pharmacy department of the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital was on Saturday interrogated by the police at Phool Bagan police station in connection with Sanjay Roy's death.
Sekhar Sharma, the general manager of the pharmacy was asked to appear before the investigating officer on Saturday. Police wanted to know from him certain issues. Police came to know in the course of the investigation that the hospital authorities overcharged Sanjay's family members by few lakh rupees. It may be mentioned that police have already interrogated the former CEO of the hospital in Eastern India Rupali Basu and the present CEO Rana Dasgupta in connection with the incident. An HR official from the hospital group in Chennai was also summoned to the police station in this regard.
A senior official of the billing department of the hospital in the city was grilled. After carrying out a thorough investigation, police found some irregularities in the bill that Roy's family members had to pay. Police started an investigation after Ruby Roy, Sanjay's wife lodged a complaint at the Phool Bagan police station alleging negligence against the hospital authorities.
Police also interrogated many doctors and nursing staff who were involved in the treatment of Roy. In a separate incident, another complaint was lodged at the same police station by the family members of a patient who had also been a subject of medical negligence at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital. They alleged that the hospital authorities forced them to submit their aadhaar card. They lodged a complaint against the hospital authorities alleging medical negligence and extortion. Police have also stared a separate probe in this incident.
Sanjay Roy was admitted to the hospital with critical injuries on his body. The hospital authorities did not allow to transfer the patient to another hospital as his family members failed to clear the dues.
They also forced the family members of the victim to deposit a fixed deposit certificate as a security to discharge the patient. The hospital allegedly overcharged the patient but the treatment was not properly done.
