The prime accused of the Purulia girl murder case Sanatan Thakur on Wednesday was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
He was produced before the Purulia district court. He was taken to the court amidst tight security considering that locals might attack him to vent their anger for killing the three-year-old girl.
On Wednesday as well, there was a lawyer who appeared for Sanatan in the court. The state's counsel too didn't plea before the court to extend the accused's police custody as the police have almost completed taking his statement in connection with the murder. He was in police custody for the past seven days.
The court on Wednesday sent Sanatan to judicial custody for the next 14 days. He was taken to Purulia district court soon after the hearing was over.
Additional policemen and women police were deployed in the court to avoid any untoward incident when the accused was produced before the court. The police had taken Sanatan inside the court room with his face covered with a piece of black cloth. He was even taken out of the court premises amidst tight security arrangement.
The investigating officers have already completed taking his statement in the past seven days. During interrogation, Sanatan has confessed that to attain moksha, he used to carry out occult practices. So he had inserted needles in the body of the three-year-old girl. He told the police that he inserted the needles knowing that it will result in a slow death of the girl which was quite essential for him to attain moksha.
The investigating officers have recorded his statement. It is learnt that initially Sanatan had attempted to distract the investigating officers by posing as if he didn't know what had actually happened. He used to keep singing different songs even after sent to the custody of the police. It was learnt that later he had failed to maintain his cool in front of the investigating officers and confessed the reason for which he had killed the girl by inserting needles into her body. He also told the police about the role played by the victim's mother Mongala whom he claimed to be his wife.
