Kolkata: The District Magistrate (DM) of Birbhum, Moumita Godara, has submitted his report to the state Education department and state Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) in connection with the incident in which students of a private school in Bolpur where to asked to take off their leggings as the garment was not a part of the school uniform.

On November 18, some students of the school wore leggings under their skirts to keep themselves warm as the temperature had dipped by a few degrees.

It is alleged their class teacher rebuked the students for wearing leggings, which she claimed did not adhere to the uniform prescribed by the school. Later, she reportedly informed the principal.

The principal had allegedly instructed the class teacher to ask the students to take off their leggings.

After the incident came to light, state Education minister Partha Chatterjee and Chairperson of CPCR Ananya Chatterjee Chakraborty sought reports from the district administration on the incident. Sources informed that following the instruction, DM, Birbhum asked the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Bolpur to inquire into the matter. During the inquiry, SDO and other officials went to the school and questioned the principal as well as some teachers.

SDO submitted the report to the DM which was later sent to Education minister and CPCR chairperson.

"We found that the school authorities had forced the students to take off their leggings which is unethical and unacceptable. The report has been submitted," said Godara on Monday.

Meanwhile the school authorities has reportedly removed the principal, who accused of forcing students to take off their leggings and threatening guardians to withdraw their complaints.

However, school authorities have not confirmed the news yet. However, guardians claim that they have been informed about the decision.

At present, a teacher from the school has been asked to take charge of principal's duty. A full-time principal will be selected later.
