Police and fire brigade officials found the body of a middle-aged woman at Parnashri (Behala) on Friday morning. The investigators revealed that the woman, whose charred body was found in her room in the second floor, was a retired employee of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
She was taken to a nearby hospital, but declared brought dead. The neighbours informed the investigators about hearing her cry from the second floor of her house at 26/2 Arya Samity Road, Behala. Pile of smoke was coming out of the window. They informed the police and the fire brigade about the incident. One of the fire engines was quick enough to reach the spot.
Ranu Roy (46) was rescued by the fire fighters. Fire brigade and police broke open the door and found her charred body lying on the floor. Soon after she was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital by the police, doctors declared her dead with 85 percent of burn injuries. However, investigators have started an investigation. The body was taken for autopsy from the hospital and they are waiting for the primary report of the autopsy test. Meanwhile, the son of the deceased was interrogated by the police. Ranu's son reportedly told police that his mother was suffering from epilepsy, which made her abnormal in nature. He also revealed that his mother was addicted to smoking and drinking.
