Kolkata: A 17-year-old-student was allegedly molested by her private tutor on Sunday morning in Baguiati. The accused teacher, Abhijit Roy, was arrested on Monday.
Police informed that the victim went to the coaching centre to attend the tuition. According to the statement recorded, Roy tried to touch her inappropriately while she was alone in the class. Despite her protests, Roy again touched her and molested.
The student returned to her home in New Town and became depressed. On noticing changes in her behavior, her mother tried figure out what had happened. Initially, she did not say a word to her mother. But later she narrated the entire incident.
Her mother went to the coaching centre on Monday evening and informed the authority about the incident. On hearing the complaint, the coaching centre authority called Roy to the center as early as possible stating urgency.
When Roy reached Baguiati, he was detained by the other guardians of the students who come to the coaching centre.
Roy tried to retaliate and said the centre authority was falsely framing him. But that did not work as the guardians were furious. He also tried to flee but failed. He was allegedly manhandled by some locals.
He was later handed over to the police. On asking, Roy did not admit to have committed the crime but did not deny the charges made against him.
On the contrary, he said the incident in a generalised matter. During the preliminary investigation, police found some substantial evidence against Roy. He was arrested on charges of molestation and sexual harassment.
He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Barasat and is being remanded to judicial custody.
