Principal, his sister die after wall of their house collapses

The principal of a school at Bhagabanpur in East Midnapore and her sister were killed when a portion of a wall of their house collapsed on Thursday morning.

Police said Debashis Das (52) was the principal of Deulbari High School in East Midnapore and her 26-year-old sister Debashri Das was a teacher of a private nursery school. Police came to know after speaking to local people that they heard a loud thud on Thursday morning and went to the spot to find that a major portion of a wall of the victim's house had collapsed.

Initially, people thought that there was no one inside. Later, a boy from the locality, who is also a student of the Deulbari School, claimed that Debashis was inside as he didn't go to school on Thursday.

It led to a panic in the area. Police went to the spot and started removing the debris along with local people.

They found Debashis' body under the debris. While clearing the debris, they also found Debashri's body. Both were taken to Bhagabanpur Hospital where they were declared brought dead. Local residents said that Debashis had a plan to bring down the entire house to rebuild it. He was also trying to get his sister married. Thus, had decided to initiate the renovation work of his house after his sister's marriage.

He had also discussed the matter with a local real estate developer who had assured Debashis all help to renovate his house.
