Police nab kidnapper, rescue victim

Kolkata: Police rescued an abducted person and nabbed the abductor from Esplanade on Monday morning.

The operation was jointly conducted by Hare Street police station and Arambagh police station.

According to the police, Shaikh Imtiaz Ali of Arambagh was missing since Sunday.

During preliminary probe sleuths came to know that the abductor had called Ali's family members and demanded a ransom.

The accused person, identified as Raju Kumar Shaw of Janbazar, had asked Ali's family members to hand over the ransom near Metro Cinema hall in Esplanade.

On Monday morning, sleuths from Arambagh police station along with Ali's brother went to Hare Street police station to seek help from the officers.

A team from Hare Street police station were engaged to assist the police team from Arambagh.

Ali's brother was asked to hand over the money to Shaw. Meanwhile, police personnel kept an eye on Ali's brother. He was told by the police to act as per Shaw's instruction.

After waiting for some time, Shaw came there along with Ali. As soon as Ali's brother handed over the bag, the joint team of police surrounded them and detained Shaw. Later, the police came to know that Shaw was known to Ali. Shaw was arrested by the sleuths from Arambagh.

In another incident, two persons identified as Bhaskar Mondal and Raja Halder were arrested from Esplanade bus terminus on Saturday for allegedly carrying illegal firearms.

Sleuths have seized one country-made pistol along with three rounds of bullets from Mondal and one country-made single shooter along with another three rounds of bullets from Halder. Cops came to know that the firearms were to be sold to some people who had managed to flee just before police arrived.
