Police constable shot dead in North Dinajpur

Kolkata: A police constable was shot dead by some miscreants post-Thursday midnight at Chopra in North Dinajpur. The constable, identified as Sabbir Ali, was on patrolling duty along with other police personnel of Chopra police station when he was shot.

According to sources, around 2:30 am the patrolling van carrying four persons including an officer and the driver was standing on State Highway 31 at Kalagaj More near Dolua primary health centre. While sitting inside the van, the mobile phone of Ali rang and he got down from the van to receive the call.

A few minutes later, all of a sudden, other police personnel heard a shot and got down from the van. They saw Ali lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. He was immediately rushed to Dolua primary health centre where the doctor declared him brought dead. Ali was shot on his head just beside the ear.

Some local residents who had came out from their houses after hearing the gunshot claimed that two persons were seen running away from the spot.

Questions were raised about the fact that why the other police personnel were not able to see anybody if the locals could. Ali's family members are pointing fingers at his colleagues who were performing night patrolling with him.

Later Ali's body was sent to Islampur Sub-Divisional Hospital for autopsy examination. His family members demanded a videography during the autopsy examination.
