Kolkata: The rate of allotting plots to set up individual units of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) at industrial parks has doubled with the introduction of the online platform to apply for lands.
In the past three months, the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC) has allotted 30 plots at its different industrial parks and estates to set up units of micro, small and medium scale industries.
According to a senior official of the corporation, earlier only around 60 plots used to get allotted a year and the entire task used to take place manually. But with the introduction of the online platform to apply for lands at industrial parks, the process of allotting the same is taking place timely and in a more transparent manner.
"With completion of the allotment process of 30 plots in just three months, it is expected that the number would become 120 in a year, which is exactly double that of the last year," the official said.
It may be mentioned that the state government has made the process of allotting lands to entrepreneurs of micro, small and medium enterprises at industrial parks online from October 31 and since then entrepreneurs didn't need to run to any government office to apply for the same.
Instead they get a call within three weeks of applying online with all valid documents from the corporation and the land gets allotted if the project is found to be viable after a discussion with top brass of the corporation.
The major step of introducing the online platform under the state government's project of "ease of doing business" was to show how entrepreneurs have started taking interest in choosing plots at industrial parks those are not even situated close to the city. The thirty plots those have been allotted in the past three months are mostly in Bolpur, Ambari Falakata and Behrampore.
"Now, more number of entrepreneurs are approaching the corporation as more information about each of its industrial estates and parks have been made available online," the official said adding that the response is equally good in North Bengal.
