Kolkata: The search committee will soon hold its meeting for appointment of Centenary chair professor for International Relations and Munshi Premchand chair professor of Hindi department of Calcutta University.
The university has already advertised for the two chair professors.
The search committee has already sat for appointing Vidyasagar chair professor and the next syndicate meeting is likely to finalise the name. The university had invited applications for Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar chair professor on September 3 to commemorate his 200th birth anniversary.
It may be mentioned that the CU syndicate on Thursday had finalised the names of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda chair professor. "Nirban Basu has been selected as Gandhi chair professor while Rupendra Kumar Chattopadhyay has been named as Vivekananda chair professor," said Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of CU.
Basu had earlier acted as dean of the university. In 2015, Chattopadhyay had shifted from Calcutta University to Presidency University as the Paresh Chandra Chatterjee Professor of History. He is rejoining Calcutta University.
In 2018, the university had created the Gandhi chair professor to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma.
In 2012, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the creation of the Vivekananda chair professor's post to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which was observed on January 12, 2013.
Debasish Das was appointed as permanent registrar of the university on Thursday. A professor of Chemistry in the varsity he has been holding the post of part time registrar for some time.
After Basab Chaudhuri had joined as the Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal State University in September 2015 , the varsity has not had a full time registrar.
