Kolkata: An Australian national has written to Kolkata Police Commissioner commending two officers of New Market police station, who had displayed 'outstanding efficiency and professionalism' in recovering the camera he had left in a cab during his visit to the city in the last week of May.

In the letter written by D RM Anderson, a resident of New South Wales in Australia, to Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, he states that he had visited Kolkata enroute to Assam and spent some days here for sightseeing.

On May 31, Anderson had spent the morning visiting Dalhousie area and after having a cold drink at Great Eastern Hotel, he boarded a taxi that travelled across the southern part of the city to reach his hotel on Elgin Road.

Soon after reaching his hotel room, he realised that he had left his camera inside the cab. He felt dejected because in the last few days he had captured various photographs

of Kolkata.

He immediately called the Great Eastern Hotel and asked for help regarding the identification of the cab. They called back after sometime and provided him with the registration number of the cab, which they could trace through CCTV footages.

The foreign national immediately went to New Market police station and reported the matter to inspectors Manik Dutta and Ashis Basu.

He also handed them the registration number of the vehicle. The duo was prompt enough to locate the cab among thousands of such yellow cabs that operate in the city.

"Within 90 minutes, the taxi driver reached the police station with my camera. To me this was a miracle and I was extremely relieved," Anderson's letter to the Police Commissioner stated.

He further mentioned that he was apprehensive about other passengers, who would board the taxi after him, stealing his camera and he would not be able to find it again.

The Australian has showered lavish praise on the manner in which the two officers behaved with him when he turned up at the police station and sought their assistance.

"Throughout this process, both these officers acted patiently and in a business like manner. Not even for once, I felt like they were dealing with a trivial matter as I realize police have far more important work to perform," the letter read.

He had urged Kumar to share his experience and feelings with the two officers of New Market police station for successfully tracing his lost camera.
