Kolkata: More than 10,000 senior workers of Trinamool Congress were felicitated in the programme called Shikriti Sammelan that was organised in all 294 Assembly constituencies by the party on Sunday. The felicitation comes as a mark of recognition to them for their fight to take the party ahead since its day of inception.
It is a part of the programme called Banglar Gorbo Mamata that the party has taken up to undertake a massive campaign across the state.
In and around Kolkata, party secretary general Partha Chatterjee organised the same at his Assembly constituency in Behala West, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay at Rashbehari, Javed Khan at Kasba, Aroop Biswas at Tollygunge, Firhad Hakim at Kolkata Port and Sujit Bose near Lake Town at Bidhannagar Assembly constituency. Sadhan Pande held the programme at eight different locations in Maniktala Assembly constituency.
The event was organised with equal importance in the districts as well, where the MLAs and local leaders felicitated the senior party workers. At all the Assembly constituencies, the senior party workers were found welcoming the move of Mamata Banerjee and congratulated her for undertaking 138 projects to ensure overall development of the state.
"A section of leaders who had taken part in the political movement of our leader Mamata Banerjee, particularly when she was in the Opposition, has not been taking part in party activities as they feel that they are denied of their due respect by a section of present leaders. We want them to associate themselves with
the party as we believe that their advice and experience will come handy in our future journey. Please forgive us, if there has been any mistake on our part and be with the party," Chatterjee said.
He reminded the party workers that TMC needs to play an important role in the current scenario, when the BJP government at the Centre is trying to divide people along religious lines. "In such a scenario, we want both the old and the new party workers to work together under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee," he added. Senior party leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay began his felicitation programme by distributing masks. "We all need to stay safe in the wake of COVID 19 and precautions need to be taken," Chattopadhyay said. He also appealed to the senior workers to attend party meetings on a regular basis.
"Your presence in meetings is an inspiration to the present generation. I will soon hold a meeting with councillors and block presidents of my constituency, to urge them to show due respect to the senior party workers," he added.
Javed Khan also felicitated senior party leaders and said that Sunday's programme is a part of Banglar Gorbo Mamata that was started after the success of Didi ke Bolo, through which more than 25 lakh people were benefited.
